The WAPUSH team is thrilled to announce we have received an incredible piece of history from Molly Murphy MacGregor, co-founder of the National Women’s History Alliance. Founded in the late 1970s and then known as the National Women’s History Project, this was the organization behind the creation of Women’s History Month. Molly gifted the frame above to Serene Williams, co-founder of Women’s History in High School and the WAPUSH campaign for an AP Women’s U.S. History course.

As Molly shared with Serene, “In 1989, Millie Ann Iuso-Cox, a middle school teacher and advocate for women’s history, presented the NWHP founders with this gift. The chestnuts attached to this testimony came from the tree in front of Elizabeth Cady Stanton’s house in Seneca Falls…as you well know, the seeds of today represent the growth and actions of tomorrow.”

This is such a wonderful gift and we are so grateful to Molly for considering our work part of her incredible legacy. Serene has been following Molly’s advocacy for women’s history since 2001 when she first started teaching Women’s Studies courses at the high school level. Without Molly’s incredible work to promote women’s history, there would never be a WAPUSH campaign.
